I went to Sturbridge Village today with my family. It's an authentic small town, set in the year 1838, complete with real buildings from that era and period dress. We went to the blacksmith, the carding mill, the farm, the potter's, the cooper's, and the general store. It left me with this longing for the freshness and simpleness of life then. Everything they did for work was so artistic and healthy for them. They worked on the farm with their family and taught their children to do the same thing. Everything was fluid, in a way, all intersecting and coming together in a beautiful working system. That was an integral life system. Quite a contrast to our disjointed society now. Aside from the indoor plumbing and heating issue, I wouldn't mind returning to a time like that. Or maybe I'll just adopt some ideas from them and incorporate more peace into my life.
